Homemade Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting

Yum! Who doesn’t love some good frosting?

Although I personally have to try to stay away from it or I will eat the frosting by the spoonfuls. I grew up eating graham crackers with frosting on them as a special treat, a very sugary treat I must say. I have the biggest sweet tooth thanks to my mom, hehe!, however, sugar can be very bad for you, not only for your waistline but it also lowers your immune system defense as well as acts as food for viruses, bacteria and even cancer.

So my thing is, sugar in moderation! Once and a while it’s ok to have a sugary treat but instead of buying the chemical laden frosting, make your own!

I got the inspiration for this frosting over at Wholesome Baby Food.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounce package of cream cheese
  • 1 C homemade powdered sucanat (or organic powdered sugar)
  • 1/8 tsp homemade vanilla
  • 1 1/2 C heavy cream
What to Do:
  1. In a medium bowl, mix softened cream cheese, powdered sucanat, salt and vanilla until smooth.
  • to made powdered sugar, take sucanat, rapadura, pure cane sugar crystals, etc. and mix in blender until turns into powder
  • In a separate medium bowl, use that same mixer to mix heavy cream until peaks form or is foam-like. (Will take about 3-4 minutes)
  • Fold mixture together into one of the bowls until thoroughly mixed.
  • Spread frosting onto cake or cookie and enjoy!
  • We recently enjoyed some of this frosting on gingerbread and gingerbread men, deliciousness! You can find those gingerbread recipes this Friday.
What’s your favorite kind of frosting?

    1. Yum! I’ve had great success with powdered sucanat. Don’t even miss the old stuff. 🙂

    2. I’ve used powdered sucanat with great success, but never in a cream cheese frosting!! Rachel, THANK YOU for sharing this recipe! Will be topping our Christmas morning cinnamon rolls with this. 🙂

      Blessings,

      Lisa

    3. Yummy, Rachel. This looks amazing! I can’t wait to try it (today hopefully!) 🙂

    4. Thanks Stacy- It’s great! Now, I made icing (the choclate on the gingerbread cookies, will be on Keeper of the Home gingerbread post tmrw) and it is good but since we are not used to taste, especially for icing since we dont have it much, it was a little different, but still good.

Lisa- You should try it! It’s definitley not a rich icing feel to it more like whipped cream, jusy so you know, but it will be awesome on cinnamon rolls!

Mindy- Can’t wait to hear how it turns out on your spice muffins!

    5. Hello ! Thanks for sharing the recipes. I´m new in this cream cheese frosting thing, but I found that it´s great. My doubt now is how long can I store SAFELY in the fridge, the frosting I didn´t arrive to use. Could you give me a hint?
      Thanks !
