6 Songs to Lift You Up When You’re Feeling Defeated

Faith.

It seems like such a simple thing to have when life it “great”, when you’re not going through a valley or trial.

And I can over and over again lay down my Issac as Abraham did in faith but then pick it back up and continue to think I can handle it on my own, or that I can somehow weasel my way through God’s plan, protecting myself from what I can only see as pain in my flesh.

Combating our flesh while trying to trust is so very hard, isn’t it?

But God’s word is clear when it says in Matthew 17:20, “For truly I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain move from here to there and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.”

I’m having mustard seed faith right now and although it’s small I know my God is BIG and nothing is too small for Him. And even though my mustard seed faith is lacking at times, when it’s not I’ll going to shout at the mountain to move.

But I’m not gonna lie, sometimes I can’t tell the mountains to move, I let fear discourage me and sometimes I do not trust. When these times come, I get into the word, surround myself with friends and family that will encourage me and pray with me and listen to songs that lift me up.

Here are 6 songs to lift you up when you’re feeling defeated:

Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher. This is one of my favorites. I really need Him every hour and when fear creeps in I’m reminded He is my Hope and Stay.

Pray by Sanctus Real. Sometimes we don’t have the words to say as the song says and He knows our hearts and all we need. All we need to do is say His name and pray.

Redeemed by Big Daddy Weave. No matter what we’ve done, no matter the lack of faith, God loves us, and He sets us free. Sometimes I need to remember I’m not who I used to be, He has redeemed me.
Help Me Find It by Sidewalk Prophets. When we’re feeling defeated or even having to surrender our will for His we can feel lost. But we’re not, we’re walking in the path He has for us. We’re giving him fear, he’s giving us faith!
Worn by Tenth Avenue North. Sometimes we’re worn out from the struggles and pain in life, we just need to know that it’ll all be better someday, somehow. This is  song is a cry to God for peace. God has an amazing way for turning our pain into something beautiful.

You are I am by Mercy Me. I think we’ve all felt as if God wasn’t even there with us at times but He is the great I am and is not too far out of reach for us.

What do you do when you’re feeling defeated?

  1. You Are I Am is one of my favorite songs ever. Love that one! And thanks for listing the one by Sidewalk Prophet and the one by Tenth Avenue North. Loved both of those!
