Impact of Blogging and Blog Community {via Rachel’s husband}

Hi! I am Jake, Rachel's husband and I am hacking her blog today. Rachel's blog has impacted me in so many ways, and I know the blogging community has supported her in times when I couldn't. Rachel even asked me earlier this year to be a part of her blog by allowing me to contribute the Ask Dr. Jake feature where anyone can ask their health-related questions. Several of you have asked questions so I know you have been impacted by her blog too. Good luck to everyone going to Allume this weekend. … [Read more...]

Putting our Husbands First: 3 Easy Ways to Show Him You Love Him

Written by Brandy, Contributing WriterIt’s so easy in our busy, busy lives to lose sight of what’s really important. I’ve been in a place recently where the to-do lists and the demands of each day sometimes take my focus off of my family, in particular, my husband. Don’t get me wrong. I hug and kiss my husband many times throughout the day. I tell him I love him all the time. We talk about our days when he gets home from work. But any man will tell you that’s not enough. What do our husbands … [Read more...]

How to Rekindle the Romance in Your Marriage

Written by Jenn, Contributing Writer February 14 is quickly approaching and you know what that means! Hallmark commercials, pink and red hearts and potentially disgruntled women whose husbands fail to meet their high expectations for a romantic evening. It doesn't have to be that way! As wives, we have the potential to make this holiday perfectly wonderful by romancing our husbands! Maybe this sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out. I’d like to share how I’m learning to change my attitude … [Read more...]

Finding Joy even when "You’ve missed!"

The other night we were gathered around the dinner table eating our sausage saute and mashed sweet potatoes. Lincoln, our 4 year old would not sit in his seat! He kept getting out of his seat, laying in his seat, playing under the table.   It was driving me NUTS! But my hubby was being the disciplinarian that night. He too was going nuts because Lincoln was deliberately disobeying. So after many warnings probably too many from both of us, my hubby calmly walked over and tried to spank him on the … [Read more...]

An Outdoorsy Getaway

My husband & I love the outdoors, although I dislike very much that mosquito's are attracted to me, so I tend to have a lot of bug bites during the summer. Weekend getaways are definitely something we are going to have to do at least once a year from now on, if not more! (hint) We went to Bryson City, NC which isn't really a romantic town but is a very outdoor … [Read more...]

A Weekend Getaway

Our children are now 2 & 4 (at the time 2 & 3) and we had yet to spend a night away from them. As I write this and reminisce mine & my husband's weekend getaway, I wonder WHY in the world we never took a getaway before????A lot of the moms I know are blessed to have family in the same town so babysitting, over nighters, or last minute problems aren't problems for them usually. In our case, we haven't ever lived close enough to family. Needless to say, dates were/are few (unless we find a cheap … [Read more...]

My first 5k

You know what? I ran a 5k & it was a BLAST! Not all the days of training at the gym or outside but the accomplishment of actually doing it, especially since it was one of my goals. 5k or 3.2 miles map I'm not exactly sure what I had pictured in my mind, but it was not what actually happened. For the Covenant Health Marathon Event, there we different options: a marathon, half marathon, relay, and the 5k with well over 6,000 participants ranging from ages 5-99. It was a sight to see when the shot … [Read more...]
