Welcome to our Log-Home {a photo tour}

At the beginning of this year we purchased our first home. That saying “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage” well, we did do life in that order but usually some where before or right after marriage but before baby, couples tend to purchase a home.

Due to our circumstances we held off on buying a home until almost 10 years of marriage and after not just one baby “In a baby carriage” but two, with the third being born just 2 months after moving in.

Welcome to out Log-Home {A photo tour}

A lot of people think where we call home is quite unique and I’m sure I’d be right there with you if I was an outsider looking in. Last week after drop off at homeschool co-op, a mom and I were chatting and she said “I have to ask. My son said you guys live in a cabin, he said your son told everyone about your house when he was star of the week.”  And yes, we do, we live in a cabin aka a log-home.

When we were first thinking about buying our first home, I would have never, ever thought we’d choose to live in a log-home. But after the first time we toured it, we had that feeling, and I guess it’s a feeling you’d know if you ever bought a home and experienced that feeling, that somehow let’s you know this is it

After a blogging friend of mine shared her photo tour of their county cabin, it got me thinking that many of our friends, family and even you all- the readers have shown interest in our home as well, so I thought I’d share a tour with you.

So consider this me greeting you at our front door…

Every family has a story... Welcome to ours...

Welcome {insert your name}! So glad you are here! Please come on in…

We’re nestled right in the middle of the city, yet hidden away on 1 acre of land a little over a half a mile from a major roadway, in Eastern Tennessee.

This is the front of our home if looking in from the street. It was fun getting to decorate for Fall this year and I cannot wait to get out the Christmas decorations.

fall porch

It has literally been raining acorns in our yard. We have many oak trees but didn’t know they harvest so many acrons. I have been looking over on pinterest for some creative ideas to make use of them plus I have some ideas of my own.

  Log-Home Tour- entry way

Upon entering the front door. you’ll see the stairs which go up to our “living quarters” as they’s say in Downtown Abbey. Can you spot the paper airplane? 🙂

Log-Home Tour- fireplace

To the right of the entry way, is our living room. We have a fireplace that was really nice this past winter. My husband and I had only ever started fires while camping so it was a bit tricky to learn how to start them in the fireplace but we got the hang of it. You’ll see a bookshelf full of books, frames full of memories and some decorations.

And of course you see our baby’s swing and basket full of toys.

In our home let love abide and BLESS all those who step inside.

tour 3

This is our entertainment area. We purchased this buffet at a local furniture consignment store which holds some dvds. the baby’s diapers and wipes, etc. and is our TV stand. Next to that is a cabinet that houses our games. We love playing games, and you’ll often see my kids pull a game out on the floor and play together.

tour 4

In this living room space you’ll often hear laughter and sometimes even tears, it’s where we gather to hang out, watch movies, play games, dig into the bible at weekly small group, or even talk about important things. It’s also where I unwind at the end of the night watching a favorite show & chat with my hubby. You can also see a piano. My husband has always wanted to learn so he and Julia our 5 year old practice there after lessons.

tour 7

One my favorite spots in the whole house is the kitchen. I absolutely love all of the storage. I always wanted one of the hanging pots & pans rack and this house had one. This is where we make smoothies in the morning, eat lunch, dinner and enjoy time together making food or even just relaxing. We just made some of these pumpkin muffins the other day. Yum!

I like hugs & I like kisses but what I’d really Love is help with the dishes.

  tour 8

Our dinning room table, which we’ve had since before our children were born has plenty of space for friends and family. We have a little nook in our kitchen with a sitting area I am still working on which often is a junk table if we aren’t careful. And that, that is a nice desk area in the kitchen which right now is in the state of despair lol!

tour 15

Out the door in the kitchen is our screened-in porch. We like to hag out in there to keep away from the mosquitoes. Once in a while we enjoy a meal together or even work on some school work. Speaking of school work, we’ll go back in through the kitchen and living room, past the stairs and into a door.

A Sneak Peek into our Homeschool

This is our school room. You can find a whole post on how we “do” school with a room tour here.

There is no place like home, there’s no place like home…

tour 5

You can get to this bathroom from another door in the school room as well as through the living room. Now lets head upstairs.

tour 9

Upstairs you’ll find all of our bedrooms. When we moved in, that nice baby gate was already here which I am positive will be used a lot when London starts to get more mobile in a few months. To the right of the stairs is a little hang out spot and the kids’ rooms.

tour 10

The fire place goes up from downstairs all the way up, out the ceiling with pretty stone all around it.

tour 11

In this little hang out area, we have a LEGO table and some shelving with books and other small toys.

tour 12

To the left of the little hang out area is our son, Lincoln’s room. All of his furniture is from our childhood rooms with the exception of the chair and toy cubby. Some of his favorite things include drawing, writing stories and playing with legos.

tour 12

Parralel to Lincoln’s room is our daughters’ room. Right now it’s only Julia’s room but as London gets older and I move her crib out of our room into here, they will share. It is a very big room that is plenty spacious for them both. You can’t tell but behind where I am standing to take with picture, is enough room for another twin size bed and dresser.  Some of Julia’s favorite things are playing with her dolls, pretend restaurant and salon.

tour 13

This is the guest/kids’ bathroom. Just like the downstairs bathroom, this one has a claw-foot tub. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think these tubs are neat and beautiful looking, however, they are not very practical to raising young children. The shower head is now broken but when our kids were using this shower, they often fell while trying to get out several times plus water.gets.every.where! We are thinking about installing a Bathtub unit sometime over the next year.

If you turn left once you go up the stairs, you pass the bathroom you just saw then see the laundry room. We thought it was really neat the laundry room was on the same floor that the bedrooms are, where all the clothes go. As you can see, laundry is my nemesis. 😉

This is our happily ever after.

tour 14

After the laundry room, you’ll enter the master bedroom. It’s a very spacious space with a tall ceiling with beams. We have a little sitting area (you can see in the collage, the smaller picture on the bottom) to the left and a our baby’s area to the right. The curtains, just like all the curtains in the whole home, were left by the previous homeowners. One day I’d like to get new ones but they work well for now.

Our bed was purchased at a furniture consignment store a few years ago. The blanket was crocheted by my Grandmother.

This is the master bathroom. This past March, our 3rd child, a daughter was born in that bathtub. (Don’t worry, we planned a homebirth with a midwife) 🙂 It was an amazing experience!

  tour 16

Looking out the back windows in our bedroom, you will see our backyard. The previous homeowners had built an awesome playhouse which my kids have fun playing in. We love to be outside!

Now that you’ve seen each area or room, all cleaned up, I’d like to share a picture collage of memories in the making in those rooms, where you’ll see the real-life happening.

I hope my children look back one day and see a mother who had time to play. There will be years for cleaning and cooking. For children grow up while we’re not looking.
