As I write this, there is a fresh coating of snow on the ground at my house. It’s our token snowfall of the year. We aren’t likely to get any more snow, which has one very significant meaning to me– Spring is on its way!
Winter has never been my favorite season. Far from it. January and February are usually hard months for me when, tired of being cold all the time, I am impatient for the return of sunshine and warmer weather.
This year I tried to be very intentional about guarding myself from complaining and grumbling over the weather. After all, the seasons are ordained by God and are a blessing. Nevertheless, realizing that Spring weather is only weeks away is very exciting!
No matter how many weeks away Spring really is, we can start now making our homes feel more Spring-y and bright. If winter does decide to linger, making a few small additions now will make the wait more pleasant.
5 Easy Ways to Bring Spring to Your Home
1. Print new pictures for your picture frames
If you are anything like me, three years can go by before you even think about changing pictures in your picture frames. But putting fresh pictures in your frames can make a big difference in the look of your home. Even better, try to select pictures with spring colors and in which the subjects are wearing shorts and sandals rather than scarves and thick boots.
(I recently made over our master bedroom as a Valentine’s Day surprise for my husband and printed summertime pictures for two large frames. Makes me readier than ever for tank top weather!)
2. Declutter
No surprise here, but things tend to accumulate during the winter. Though Christmas is usually the biggest culprit for increased clutter, it’s not the only one. Having to stay indoors more during the cold weather often means more crafts, more projects, more cold weather gear, and so on.
Start now to declutter your home. Pare down and organize toys. Simplify your closet. Give away or get rid of the extra things you don’t need but are taking up valuable space.
Making your home tidier (as much as you can if you have kids) and less cluttered goes a loooonnnng way to giving your home a breath of fresh (spring) air.
3. Add some greenery
I bought an ivy from the grocery store a few weeks ago when I was redecorating my mantle. It gave the perfect little element of life and helped to brighten up the room.
I would show you a picture…but I killed it. Which is pretty awful considering how low maintenance they are supposed to be. I am still deciding whether or not I will try again or simply replace it with a pretty little {plastic} ivy.
Real or fake, plants are a quick way to bring spring inside.
4. Make a spring art piece to display
Find a frame or embroidery hoop and fill it with a pretty reminder of spring. Flowers, sunshine, green grass, or simply a phrase or verse.
Here are five ideas to get you started:
- simple embroidery art
- spring button flowers
- kids’ fingerprint dandelion art
- print a spring subway sign on burlap
- Easter hymn chalkboard printable
5. Paint it white
I discovered my love for white paint after reading the Nesting Place. Since then, I’ve painted all sorts of things white, from my entire dining room to pieces of furniture to all sorts of baskets and frames I have found at Goodwill.
A few cans of white spray paint are an inexpensive and quick way to achieve a unified look with varying elements in your home. And, my favorite part, white elements makes a room look lighter and cleaner.
I like all of your ideas!! Wonderful. Thanks for sharing them.
