Chiropractic Care for Children

Chiropractic is more than just relief for pain in your neck or back!

About Chiropractic:

Chiropractic can be traced to ancient times when spinal manipulation was first mentioned. In the United States, Daniel David Palmer founded the chiropractic profession in 1895. Throughout the 20th century, chiropractors gained recognition and support for care spread all over the world.

Chiropractors average 372 more hours in school than those in medical school. In school they learn about the structure and function of the body and how it relates to health & disease. They are doctors who develop natural & conservative methods to health.

Chiropractors also know that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. They are involved in the treatment as well as the prevention of disease. And of course there many different kinds of chiropractors with different philosophies. We use chiropractic to keep us healthy, not to treat sickness and pain.

In fact, Medical Researcher Excited By CBSRF did a three-year study of 107 individuals who had been under chiropractic care for five years or more, the chiropractic patients were found to have a 200% greater immune competence and 400% greater immune competence than people with cancer and other serious diseases. The immune system superiority of those under chiropractic care did not diminish with age.

Why to get under chiropractic care?

The American Chiropractic Association states, “The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as the “chiropractic adjustment.” The adjustment helps correct subluxation– the misaligned bone and allow it to return to its proper position. You get under care to help these subluxations that effect your whole body.

My husband is a chiropractor and we look at chiropractic from a wellness prospective, a way of life for us & to help our family to be healthy. We do not think it is just for pain! Anyhow, I say all of that to say that chiropractic care is for everyone, INCLUDING children!

Questions to think about when it comes to your child/ren & chiropractic care:
  • Did you know that birth is one of the most traumatic things a baby goes through and when they often get their 1st subluxation?
  • Did you know toddlers fall thousands of times while learning to walk?
  • Did you know that Chiropractic increases mental awareness?
  • Did you know that subluxation can be the cause of an ear infection?
  • Did you know that if detected before the age of 25, a scoliosis can be corrected by chiropractor?
  • Did you know that the immune system can be boosted by getting adjusted?
  • Did you know that a child’s adjustment is different from that of an adult?
Check out this video on the benefits of chiropractic care for kids:

Our kids have been under chiropractic care within a few days of birth. They do not go to traditional doctors nor do we vaccinate or use any medication and have been healthy all their lives. They get an occasional fever, stomach bug like any child but we let their bodies heal themselves and they get regular adjustments every week. Read more about our choice here.

  1. Hi Rachel. I just found your blog from a friend. 🙂 I posted about spelt berries, a more nutritious alternative to wheat. Buy them whole and grind them fresh to cut costs and improve flavor.

  2. I love your post! I really learned a lot about chiropractic medicine. so glad to have found your blog! you should check out Give Back Thursdays. A meme about Giving Back to others!

  3. Hi Rachel,
I shared my Almond Date Energy Bar with a video and some articles — including a New GAPS Forum and the 12th Annual Wise Traditions Conference!

  4. My sister-in-law said she was getting really bad headaches and was adjusted. It made a huge difference. 🙂 I’ve heard many other testimonies! My friend went to a chiropractor who worked on humans and animals. The assistant looked out into the waiting room(horse and people present), and asked the doc, “Who’s next, the horse or the lady?” I am not even making that up! As funny as that is, it goes to show that it even works well on animals. Many animals after a rodeo will have chiropractic work done.

  5. Hi Rachel! I am a huge advocate for chiropractic care. I had the Webster technique performed on me twice during my fourth pregnancy (when my baby was transverse.) Chiropractic care helped to prevent me needing a c-section. I would love to have regular adjustments for my children and I. I need to see if it would work in our budget. Blessings!

  6. Rachel, I am curious to know the cost that goes along with this. I know every office will be different do you know the average cost? I’m very interested in Chiropractic care but on a military budget it seems almost impossible…especially when health care is at no cost to us. Our insurance does not cover chiropractic care. And with 3 kids the cost could add up quickly.

  7. Amanda- I’m glad you found my blog. I will have to check out your post on spelt berries. Is that the same as spelt?

Georgia- so glad you learned about how chiropractic can help you! I will check out your meme, maybe it’ll encourage me to help someone who doesn’t expect it today!

Jill- the energy bar sounds tasty! I’ll check it out, always love your videos & informational posts!

Living So Abundantly- chiropractic CAN make a huge difference in any problem your having with your body and also can help prevent those problems before they start! That is a very funny story! horse or you next, maam? lol!

Christine- yes! chiropractic can even help pregnancy, not a lot of the mainstream prego women know! Check your budget, some chiropractos do care plans that help with the cost of a whole family getting under care. My hubby may be able to refer you to someone???

Katie- I suggest you look into calling local offices and ask about military discounts. Make sure it’s a wellness-based office! Often, DC’s give discounted care to military families & other professions like fire-fighters, police officers and pastors. My hubby may be able to refer you to someone as well.

Thanks for all of your comments! I love to answer questions, especially when it comes to something so close to our passion!

  8. Emily @ Recipes to Nourish says:

Thanks so much for hosting Rachel and for letting me know about your blog!!! I shared a nourishing Homemade Fudgesicle recipe. We also love Chiropractic care, it was such a blessing during my pregnancy. My little love also got some adjustments when she was an infant. Thanks again.

  9. Rachel – Sharing our latest muffin. AnnaLynn says we’ll work on a sugar free muffin just for you. 🙂 About chiropractic care for children… I’m intrigued that scoliosis can be corrected through chiropractic care; interestingly, AnnaLynn has a mild case. Will have to look into it. Thanks for the great article and for hosting. ~Lisa

  10. PS: Adorable video of your little girl!!

  11. Emily, Thanks for stopping by & sharing a yummy recipe! Adding it to my recipe box!

Lisa & AnnLynn- I’m excited about the sugar-less muffins! Hope you look into it, make sure you find a wellness-base chiropractor, one that is just based on pain. Julia, our daughter loves it, she doesn’t know any different. Sometimes the kids pretend to adjust their toys.

  12. Lisa, meant to say isn’t not is

  13. I figured… 🙂

  14. Just stopping by to check in. You stopped by my blog a few weeks ago and I didn’t get a chance to stop by yours. I didn’t link up this week due to my schedule, getting ready to travel for business the next two weeks and swamped getting ready! I will plan to link up next week while I am on the road.

I have only been to a chiropractor once and I thought he was going to paralyze me because he was so rough. I guess my bad experience has scared me away. I do go to a massage therapist 2 times a month. I sit at a computer all day and hold all my stress in my shoulders and neck, so 30 minutes with a massage therapist helps. I would be interested how a chiropractor could help that area….I am pretty sure it is my muscles that are my issue.

  15. Hi, Rachel,
Thanks for selecting the poison ivy remedies post. I am honored! I feel at home on your blog and hope we can comment with each other often 🙂 I am just learning (and slow) since I am almost 60 and computer skills aren’t natural to me. I’m doing this to stretch my brain! Ha-ha

  16. I firlmy believe in Chiropractic care! When my daughter was 5 she kept having ear infections. Just one right after another & so many different kinds of antibiotics! We were finally told that she may have to have tubes put in her ears & was sent to an ENT doctor. Before the appointment with the ENT a co-worker of mine suggested that I take her to a chiropractor before getting tubes in. I had never heard of such thing but the more research I did on it the more I got positive feedback from it. I took her to the ENT & he was totally against me taking her to the chiropractor. He gave me 1 more high powered antibiotic & said if that doesn’t take care of it we need tubes. Well, I made an appointment with a chiropractor & I was amazed at what I learned from her! My daughter is 16 now & she has never had another ear infection since then! The funny thing is, I took her back to the ENT for a re-check after she had been to the chiropractor for a while, Her ears were clear & assumed it had to do with the high powered antibiotic he gave her, I never told him that she had been seeing a chiropractor!

  17. Whoo hoo! Chiropractic changed my life! I just replied to the comment you left on my page and said I used to work for a holistic doctor who did corrective care chiropractic, nutrition, & fitness. I learned SO much about the body. Whenever my husband and I have kids they will definitely get adjusted!

  18. I thank God all the time for my chiropractor. When I was pregnant w/my second child, my right leg would give out on me, just with no warning. My friend had been seeing a chiropractor for migraine and she suggested it. After the 1st treatment, where he so kindly answered my questions (“Can you break my neck if you twist it too hard, like Steven Segal?”) he adjusted me and I felt as if I was high!

I had weekly adjustments till I had my son and I’m convinced that his treatments was one of the reasons I had such a quick birth.

I did chiropractor treatments on both of my children when they were babies & toddlers. My 2nd child suffered w/ear infections. One time he was feverish, cranky, just miserable. He had been like that for a few days. I brought him into the chiropractor and I swear to you, within 30 minutes of being adjusted, his fever broke, his mood brightened and he wasn’t sick anymore.

You are blessed to be married to a chiroprator. I swear, i would want to be adjusted every day!

  19. lol – I love how dolly got adjusted, too. 🙂

Thanks for hosting. Today I linked up a review of the book Deep Nutrition, which I think everyone should read. I liked it so much I’m giving away several copies on my blog.

  20. I am just learning a bit more about chiropractic care (for adults and children). I find it so interesting!

  21. I love that you blog (among many other things) chiropractic care! My family’s only problem is that we have a limited income, and our co-pay is expensive. We have had to focus on the family member that needed the most care a the time. Our baby (9 months now) was sick a lot this winter despite the fact that she is exclusively breastfed (a shock to my system since her sister was very healthy and breastfed until almost 2). We had to only choose one of us to receive care, so she went weekly. Her chiropractor has now put her on a once/month schedule. My question is: If we can only afford is once every other month or so for each family member–is it worth it? Does it still help? Thank you! 🙂

  22. Andrea- My husband says that bc you sit at a computer for long periods of time, you could be damaging your vertebae & spinal cord bc desk workers carry so much weight on their necks, and altho a massage in nice, if there is a problem, it should be corrected by a chiropractor.

Jacqueline- I’m glad you enjoy my blog! No worries about computer skills, we’re all learning with you!

DebDoo- Awesome story! Thanks for sharing!

Lori- so glad I met you in “blog-world!”

PaulaB52- Encouraging & funny stories! I am blessed!

Laurie- Yes, dolls & action figures get adjusted, lol!

Brenna- glad you are learning more about it!

Humbled Homemaker- I would ask the chiropractor you go to if he has family rates, whole family, per month? If he doesn’t call up other family wellness chiropractors in your town. My husband see’s a lot of families and often forgives co-pays if they have insurance, if no insurance or they won’t cover it, there is often a minimal monthly rate and a lot of FREE care for the rest of the family!

It’s always worth it, even if you can;t go regulary, go when u can!It always helps and in the end your family will be less sick and that will actually save you money!

  23. Hi Rachel,

I had my first adjustment today. It was kinda scary. I can’t imagine a small child doing this without freaking out. Do they usually cooperate?

    -Nancy

  24. Nancy, Sorry it was scary, too forcefull? Sometime if you tense up it don’t help like it would if you were relaxed. Wellness or pain clinic? The amount of force os a lot less on a child. Usually they do fine if they feel they are safe! Plus, mom’s reactions, positve or negative will influence them. Also some different techniques may be used, some have hand-held devices and a lot of the time it’s where they are just help like my husband did with my daughter in the video, for a baby, they just hold the baby upright, or laying down on mom or the dr and you can’t ever tell they’re doing anything at all.

  25. I would say pain management center. Today the popping was not as loud. I’m sure you get used to it.

  26. Hi…Your post really got me thinking man….. an intelligent piece, I must say. We provide best Chiropractic treatment service.

  27. One of the more common ailments that a chiropractic clinic can help you with is
    back pain.

  28. Will definitely be sharing this with my friends who call our dear Chiropractor a witch doctor!

  29. “Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to understand so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I feel that you can do with a few p.c. to drive the message house a bit, but other than that, that is excellent blog. A great read. I will certainly be back”
