Hiking in the Desert

While my kids and I were in Arizona a couple of weeks ago we went on a hike less than a mile away from my parent’s house. While walking, I was comparing our hike to life, especially experiencing our hike with my kids.
When you’re in the desert, you have to pay attention to where you walk. There are rocks everywhere, you have to be careful not to trip or you could fall on a cactus and although I’ve never seen one, there are rattlesnakes as well as other desert animals or even thorny bushes.
The desert has hills and valleys. At different times in the day is can be extremely hot or can be cool. Sometimes you feel like giving up, I know several times along the two mile hike my kids were whining and asking me to hold them.
Sometimes in our walk (hike) with the Lord, we can steer off course by being easily distracted, or life circumstances can get very difficult so we want to give up or even whine to God.
Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Instead of feeling lost, or like giving up, or even whining to God, we just need to give him our hike through life.
We kept on persevering, at times it was difficult with high inclines and other times there were easier flat terrains (and I did not pick my kids up, I made them walk) and we were able to finish the hike.
Hikes when walking with the Lord aren’t as easy as hikes in the desert. Even though there are many dangerous things in the desert, there are even more things in life that happen and we feel lost and weary but God will never leave us.
we did it!
Proverbs 3: 5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding,  seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
I pray that I can give all of my life’s hikes to Him, whether they are easy or hard!
