Easy Garlic Salsa

You don’t want to get your garlic out if you are going to see Breaking Dawn, part of the Twilight series this week, but you do if you want to help your immune system! I believe the character Bella would not even get close to garlic because she is in love with Edward and my husband would know because he read the books! Yes, a 32 year old guy read the series!

All joking aside, garlic is defined as a strong-smelling pungent-tasting bulb, used as a flavoring in cooking and in herbal medicine. Garlic not only has an electrifying flavor, but it is also great for your body.

So… forget the flu shot and fight back with food!

This week is the preceding final week which is opened up to all of our readers who will be linking up their favorite recipes with these key flu-fighting ingredients, so that you can get lots of ideas for creative ways to serve them to your family! This series is co-hosted with these amazing ladies, consider subscribing to their blogs:
This week the focus is on Garlic!
So why is garlic so good for you? Great question!
Garlic is a natural antibiotic! Next time your child has ear infection, to help build their immune system, try giving them some garlic. Since garlic works as an antibiotic it fights against viruses, infections, and even allergies.
Dr. Sears, a leading pediatrician says that “garlic is an immune boosting food and acts as an antioxidant that reduces the build of of free radicals in the blood stream. Garlic helps protects against cancer and plays a part in getting rid of potential carcinogens and other toxic substances.”
With garlic being such a amazing food, we should have it every day. To get the best health benefits, it’s best eaten raw. With the flavor it gives, I really do think I personally have a little garlic everyday, sometimes raw or cooked in certain recipes.Something I love to eat are chips and salsa! So I wanted to share a recipe with you.

Easy Garlic Salsa

Salsa served with blue chips and garnished with cilantro
What you need:
28 ounce can of  *Organic Diced Tomatoes
2-3 fresh plump tomatoes, diced
1 medium onion, diced
5+ cloves of finely minced garlic
1 can of  *El Pato Salsa
1/2+ cup fresh cilantro (slightly chopped)
1/3 cup chives (chopped green onions)
1/2 lime, juiced
salt & pepper to taste
What to do:
In a food processor, chop onion, then add canned tomatoes, and diced tomatoes and blend. Add in all other ingredients (except lime) and blend a little more but not too much that it becomes liquid, you want it to be chunky or your desired consistency. Squeeze in lime. Enjoy!

  4. Garlic is such a powerful superfood! I will often peel a clove, pop it in my mouth, bite down once (to release the allicin), then swallow with water like a pill! Just make sure to avoid your tongue–it’s potent stuff 😉
Or, I just make a really big batch of homemade hummus with extra garlic. Eat it with fresh carrot sticks for a really big flu fighting punch!
