Finding Joy even when "You’ve missed!"

The other night we were gathered around the dinner table eating our sausage saute and mashed sweet potatoes. Lincoln, our 4 year old would not sit in his seat! He kept getting out of his seat, laying in his seat, playing under the table.

It was driving me NUTS! But my hubby was being the disciplinarian that night. He too was going nuts because Lincoln was deliberately disobeying. So after many warnings probably too many from both of us, my hubby calmly walked over and tried to spank him on the leg.

Lincoln said, “You MISSED!” with the biggest smile ever! Kids sure do test you at times!

I had to contain myself, I looked towards the wall to cover my face from the laughing explosion I was about to have.  Then I tried to make it seem like I was laughing at Julia.

“My friends, be joyful, even in the midst of tests or trials” James 1:2

Sometimes we just have to laugh at the things kids say or even do!

  1. I know what you mean. Sometimes when Annie is disobeying, it’s downright FUNNY! :-) But I have to remind myself if I laugh then I have to correct the behavior again later. :-)
Kudos to you on letting your husband be the disciplinarian!

  2. I know that’s the hardest part, if we make it funny, then they don’t get that what they did was wrong, but sometimes it’s too funny.

I have a hard time letting my hubby be the disciplinarian since I am most of the day but the kids need to learn from him too. I find it harder bc either it’s funny like that time or I get sad for the kids & him when he punished them. (I just try not to show how I’m feeling especially in front of the kids)

  3. Ok that is so funny! Sometimes, if I am really upset with Shelby and have that angry look on my face and am explaining to her what she did wrong she goes: “Hey mommy (puts her arm around my neck)…you ok?”…NO KID I AM MAD (but it always makes me laugh…she is only 2!

  4. I was that child! How funny is that? I would have had a hard time not laughing too. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Nikki- That is hilarious! I think that all the time, NO I’M Mad! Speaking of it, I told the kids to go clean the playroom 5 minutes ago and I just heard the lego bucket being poured out….. AHHH!

Fawn- Thank you for stopping by! That’s too funny! Sometimes I get really mad and sometimes I laugh, you never know, lol! It’s better when I laugh!

  6. I hate when that happens–I have a hard time containing it too!! Hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful!

  7. Absolutely! I would have had trouble not laughing, too!
