Fall. Fall can be pondered about in so many ways. In some places the beautiful oranges, yellows, reds are blazing through the leaves creating an amazing backdrop of God’s brush stokes on the earth. Other places, like my childhood hometown in Arizona, are still reaching temperatures in the 90′ but the desert is wondrous on a hike.
Fall is a time to remember to be thankful, help others and it is also a time to have fun! We still have a few weeks left, so be sure not to miss out on the fall fun!
1. Jump into a pile if leaves– This doesn’t really need any explanation. After blowing or racking leaves up… I know, I know all that work, just do it! Making memories with your family is priceless. Make leaf angels. Have a leaf fight. (aka snow angels or snow ball fights in the snow) Throw the leaves in the air and let your little ones dance under them, they will love it.
2. Read a Thanksgiving story– This year we will add this to our family traditions and I hope to move up to chapter books over the years. We will be reading What is Thanksgiving? and Thanks for Thanksgiving. After reading a story, have your children write a story about Thanksgiving, if they are young, let them say their story aloud and write it down for them as a keepsake.
3. Create a leaf collage– On a sunny day, even if it’s chilly, go for a short hike or walk in a local park. Have your children collect leaves. While on the walk, you could definitely jump into some leaves but also talk about God’s beautiful nature. Once you return home, get out some construction paper and glue, then let your children create a piece of artwork.
4. Make Thankful tree– I know we are already a third of our way into November but it’s never too late to start a thankful tree. You can go all out, use things you probably already have at home or use some construction paper. Cut your tree and your leaves and each day for the rest of the month, have every member of your family write something you are thankful for daily. This is a great way to teach youngsters to express what they are thankful for.

5. Make some pumpkin muffins– You know, to me, you just cannot get through fall without making some pumpkin bread or muffins. Really, you can’t go without a pumpkin latte, pumpkin pie, you have just got to have some “pumpkin food” or it just isn’t fall to me!
What fun things are you going to be doing this Fall?
Bake, rake (leaves), craft, read, and so much more! I love fall. 🙂
