Moms, make time for yourself

Okay, fess up..how many moms out there lost themselves after they had kids?

It’s a common thing that happens to many of us (especially stay at home mommies.) We are tried & exhausted from taking care of the house, work and the kids..we certainly don’t have time to do anything for ourselves!

I know..I get it, we’ve all had our “I just want to stay in my yoga pants and not shower” days. but it’s time to stand up and shout:

Moms, make time for yourself!

There are far too many mommies that completely lose themselves after having kids. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in those adorable tiny little tikes. But, what benefit are our little ones getting when they see that we never have time to do anything for ourselves?

I think it’s so very important for kids to see their mommies make time to do something for themselves. and I’m not talking about doing something while they nap. Naptime is a great time to do something but it’s also important for kids to actually see you making time for yourself.

Even if it’s something as simple as actually taking a shower and getting dressed, working out, reading, working on or making time for a hobby.

As much as we love our little ones, they don’t have to consume our lives. It’s okay for them to play with toys by themselves for a little bit while mommy gets stuff done.

Not only will this give them a little independence but this will free up some time for you as well.

Don’t give your kids the impression that they rule your life and that you never do anything just for you.

Making time for yourself is going to help you feel more relaxed and refresh which in turn will make the rest of the house relaxed and refreshed you know it’s true.

So take this as a challenge, permission, validation. whatever you need it to be.

Go do something for yourself!

  1. You give great advice! I have a 4 year old, and another one on the way, and I know first hand how easy it is to get stretched too thin. I have made it a point to schedule and budget in a pedicure for me, once a month. I also try to squeeze in yoga and meditation. Sometimes my daughter joins me. It really is true that if you don’t take care of yourself, you’re not going to be able to care for anyone else. 🙂

  2. I had six in ten years. I can attest that me time is essential for keeping your sanity. Easier said than done but So important!

  3. Thanks, a lovely article with sweet photos. 🙂 I like going for a walk out in the country where we live.

  4. As the mom of 10 (only 7 are still at home) I totally agree! For me it has been exercise time that has kept me energetic.

  5. UGH I needed to read this today. I am spent 🙁 I almost never make time for myself. My daughter had surgery yesterday and it was a full day process and rough day today. It will get better though, I trust that. Thank you for sharing this.

  6. This is a wonderful reminder. Thank you. <3

  7. I think it’s not only okay for kids to play by themselves, I think it’s good for them! Otherwise they might think adults (or others, in general) have a job to entertain them all day. Win for the mommy, win for the kids! (Just to clarify, I homeschool my kids and play with them on occasion, so I do spend a lot of time with them. I just think it’s good for them to be responsible for some of their own time.) 🙂

    • Very true! They get used to things so quickly, if they are used to us playing with them all the time, that’s what they expect all the time. 🙂

  8. Love this, Christy!! We most often put ourselves at the bottom of our list. But we cannot take care of others effectively without taking care of our own basic needs first. Thank you for the beautiful reminder, your little girl is too cute! 🙂
